Kid Who?

Worth downloading is Kid Who's mixtape, ToyBox; make sure you click 'download original'. Found him on the Plan B website. On another note, here's a link to a book which every child should use when learning the alphabet. Whilst you're there, have a browse on the Drawn! blog, pretty cool.

Tibet

Been reading a lot about Tibet this week and the conflict surrounding the Chinese olympics. Here's a clip from one of my favourite films, Seven Years in Tibet. Although it is easy to dispute the historical accuracy of the film, you have to concede that the way China is currently treating Tibet is appalling. On a lighter note, here is a link to Justin Quinnell's novel pinhole photography. You can buy his book, which features 60 images taken with a miniature camera placed inside his mouth. Check out his site to take your own pinhole pictures.

Skullphone

In a similar style to British artist, Banksy (here is a link if you've been living under a rock for the past five years), a young hacker named Skullphone has been attacking electronic billboards in Southern California. His basic concept is to hack into the software used to display advertisements on electronic displays by showing just his logo;

Although initially impressed by this feat, it turns out he simply paid Clear Channel, an American advertising company, to show his logo on ten of their billboards. However, you have to admire the concept...hopefully someone will be able to pull it off in London. If you wish to do your own advertisment hijacking, consider one of these.

Film Endings

Seem to have received two copies of the same film today...mildly annoying. What might be even more annoying is finding out the ending to a film you've been meaning to watch by looking at the above picture. You can buy the t-shirt here...if it isn't sold out. How annoying!

Mashups

I love a large plate of bangers 'n' mash; thanks to Liam for showing me this video of the definition of a mashup. Head over to Good Blimey to access thousands of top drawer mashups; I recommend Blue Rascal and Casbah Wonder for starters. Also, thanks to Doovey for showing me this site...download the best mashups from 2005, 2006 and 2007. Finally, click here to download DJ Knuckles mix, Le mix du petit dejeuner.

3 tage wach

Or 3 days awake, in English, is a song shown to me by Mr. V; check it out here. Here's a few festivals to check out if you haven't decided what to go to this year.

- Sanctuary
- Secret Garden Party
- Exit
- Benacaiism
- All Tomorrow's Parties

Mobile

Debate is raging at the moment due to Ofcoms decision to allow people to use their mobile phones whilst on aeroplanes. Personally, despite being a tech aficionado, I think that people should be able to go without for at least a few hours. On the subject of mobiles, I read an interesting article about Femtocells today, and natuarlly went to Wikipedia to read up. Basically they are miniature telephone masts which are installed in homes or small businesses to improve mobile phone signal...now that IS a good idea. It is predicted there will be 70million femtocells by 2012.

SkyDrive

Microsoft has just launched SkyDrive. It's basically just a password protected version of zshare, but I'm guessing it will be pretty useful.

YouTube

This picture shows parts of the world where information is highly restricted. Click on it to see the bigger picture. On another note, YouTube recently announced their top videos of 2007.which includes a guide to solving a Rubik's cube! However, my favourite has to be the Human Tetris one.

Making Things

Hope you like this schneakerspeaker (above). In the Guardian recently, there was a beginners guide to DIY, which has inspired me to make a table. But why stop there?! I've found this fairly simply guide to making your own Lego USB stick. Also worth checking out is I'm Cooked, a website similar to VideoJug but centred around cooking...surprisingly.

Amazon & Tunes

Here is what the Amazon homepage looked like when it first launched. I was wondering today when the UK will see this service. On another note, head to iTunes and download, for FREE, the LOO & PLACIDO mash mix. It's immense.

Record Covers

Thanks to Ben for showing me this cool website; SleeveFace. Head on over to his blog, Everything In It's Right Place. The concept reminds me of the new Erykah Badu video...can't wait for her new album. I'm also amazed at these speakers!

Playstation

Thought you might like this picture of the good old Playstation, which recently won a place in Stuff's top 101 cult gadgets. I'm seriously condisering buying a PS3, even if they do look like a George Foreman.

Happy Easter

Lego

Here's what Hitler may have looked as an emo. Talking of mocking evil dictators, check out this video of Eddie Izzard talking about the canteen in the Death Star. Head here to download a Noughties/Nighties megamix by Bianco. On an Easter theme, here's the majority of the Bible in lego form...The Brick Testament.

Robots

The way this robot dog moves is scary...it looks just like a small deer. Imagine an army of them! The above image is a mock up of a futuristic HUD in a car.

Photography and Drawing

Here is a famous album cover from punk band XTC, hope you can read it. Also worth checking out Holger Pooten's photography and Tim Laing's illustrations. As well as Yiftach Belsky.

Nintendo

A study on a 26-year old in New York has shown that almost half his memory is Nintendo related. Read up here. Here is another guy who plays too many video games...FPS Doug! Maybe he is responsible for this...

Muswell Hill

Had fun staying at Muswell Hill on the weekend; check out this shop called Audio Gold. It had a plethora of old audio equipment...go to the virtual tour and see if you can spot the Dr. Who radio! Also went to see DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist on their Hard Sell tour. The audio quality on the clip is a bit shabs but if anyone knows what song that sax sample is from, please let me know! Another clip is here.

Controllers

Pretty cool pic eh? If you've got a Nintendo DS, head over here to turn it into a synth! Thanks to Liam for showing me this.

The Matrix?!

Thought this picture was pretty funny. Anyway, researchers have found a primitive way of creating an alternative reality; check out the story here. Ruari showed me a great film last night called Ondskan; check out the trailer here.

Amazon

It's a sad day when children are given security check points to play with at an early age. On a lighter note, Ben showed me this classic review of a Biro.

Hi-Def

Japan have announced that they are developing a technology called Super Hi-Def which offers 16 times the amount of resolution you get with HD. The wikipedia article has a cool picture showing just how much better it is. Also, check out these photoshopped pics plus these amazing pictures of nuclear explosions that appeared on Your Daily Awesome a while back.

Advertisements

Had a D.I.S.C.O. time in Amsterdam on the weekend, nearly got a tattoo; I think I would have if they looked anything like this. Anyway, I was reminded of this Steve Ayson advert which was made for Dutch MTV; most people I've shown it to don't get it but I find it hilarious. Also worth checking out the Academy Films website to see some nice ads. And if you're just sick and tired of advertising, head to AdBusters.

Games

So it's emerged that Apple may be working on their own games console...using their many patents on touch-screen technology...EXCITING! This comes just as Microsoft announce a price cut on the Xbox 360; rumour has it they are also in talks with Sony so they can get their mitts on a Blu-Ray drive for the 360. Thanks to Ben for showing my this video a while back.

Nike iPod

I must say I'm a huge fan of the Nike+ iPod combo, if you've never seen it check it out here. That particular video actually features Aesop Rock. Anyway, Nike have just announced that they are going to be branching into gyms with their iPod technology...exciting! Also thought you might like the above picture, showing media evolution.

End of CRT

Sony have just announced that they are no longer going to be making the old-school CRT televisions. This comes shortly after LCD screens began to outsell CRT screens for the very first time. Here is a fun video showing how CRT works!

Speakers

I love a big booming pair of speakers, so I was intrigued to find this little guide, which shows you how to make your own speaker cable. Haven't tried it myself yet, but I'll be on the case soon! Wish I could have a go at this too...using hard-drives as speakers! Also worth checking out is this bass speaker test.

Videos...

Got shown some funny videos over the weekend...

- Lethal Bizzle does his own take on MTV Cribs. CHEEEEEEEEEEEEZ!
- A Jamaican tour guide who has the funniest laugh you'll ever hear.
- Jamie Foxx absolutely owns an amateur comedian.
- Thomas the Tank Engine is mixed with B.I.G.

Also on the newsfront, here is a little mod which helps turn your iPod into a mini projector. Or maybe that should be nano projector.
