Project TRICO

I'm a BIG fan of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, so I was tres excited to see this trailer. The development team that managed to convince us that running around a castle with a stick, lashing out at shadows, could actually be fun, have been working on this game for a number of years now, and will be premiering this trailer at the next E3 conference.

Enjoy.

(Thanks Tom)

Blumenau Train Sets

Paul Smith has just released briefcases containing train sets! No-one does anything at work anymore because the world is going to end soon anyway! BUY ONE HERE!

Thanks Scarlett.

Phew...

Just had a HEAVY set of exams, I've been literally eating and drinking revision...only one left now though! If you're studying at the moment, I'd recommend checking out the new collaboration between Burial and Four Tet (Thanks, Liam). There are two tracks; Moth and Wolf Cub, but my favourite is Moth. Check it out below.

Alice In Wonderland

This song was made from sounds in the film...you can download it here. Also, head here to see a TRIPPY version that involves 36 rows and 36 columns of the video above, played continuously...until the end of time. To make your own massive mosaic video, head to http://www.yooouuutuuube.com/

Fast Asleep - Funki Porcini

I bought this album years ago, but came across this MASSIVE picture of the cover on ffffound today. It's a pretty trippy album and comes with a DVD of visualisations which is worth a look if you ever see it in the sales. Below is a video of one of the clips from the DVD...it's called Atomic Kitchen.

Image of the Day

So this is what we have to look forward to when we graduate...

PS. Check out Peter Funch's other work here.

TENORI-ON

This piece of kit is SNAZZY! It's been used a lot by up and coming 'Little Boots', who you can see below using it to perform a Hot Chip cover, although you should take a look at the second video to see more of what it can do. It was invented by Toshio Iwai who, surprisingly, is a Japanese bloke who is into electronic music. It is one of the most impressive digital musical instruments I have ever seen, although it costs a steep £750 to get hold of one in the UK.

*UPDATE* Thanks to Sam for showing me ToneMatrix, which is a simplified version of Tenori-On which you can play about with online! Make sure you have the latest flash player installed.

In other news, despite going absolutely INSANE from revision, I have been enjoying Passion Pit who a have a new album out on the 19th called Manners...in the meantime, here is their video for the song 'SleepyHead'.

I need this watch...

Check out this German photo album of cool watches...some of them are amazing!

Bits and Bobs

The above image was made using an ingenious piece of software that allows you to draw using the sound of your voice...head here to try it out if you have a mic. It's quite difficult...if you don't want to spend all day humming and howling just to draw a sqaure, try putting a song that has a fairly varied soundscape on and see what happens! I stumbled across it on a blog called zefrank.com, which is full of time-wasting bits and bobs. I also discovered Nerdist, a fairly interesting blog by Chris Hardwick, who is an American comedian who also writes for Wired magazine, one of my favs.

In other news, if you have a Mac, it is worth downloading this iPlayer Downloader. It has a very intuitive UI and downloads in H.264 format, so you can drag files straight to your iPod. Also, check out FoxyURL if you are a FireFox user. Although there are many URL-shortening apps, such as TinyURL, FoxyURL whacks a tiny orange icon next to your search box. Next time you want to send someone a link, instead of having to past 5 paragraphs of random gobboldy-gook, just hit the organge icon and it will shorten it to something more manageable. Download it here.

Or, if you've got a bit of time to spare, head to lmgtfy.com. I won't tell you what it does...go and have a look!

PS. Here is a video of some more difficult voice drawing from Messa di Voice.

Ocarina iPhone

This app has been around for a while now, but it's AMAZING. You blow into the mic on your iPhone/iPod Touch and pretend you're Link. There's even a forum to share songs you've learned on it...

Island Records is 50

Nabbed my housemates MOJO this month (the magazine!) and the free CD is banging! It is a celebration of the best folk artists signed to Island and I must say I made a few discoveries myself, some of which I wish I had heard sooner! For those of you unsure as to who Island are, check the wikipedia page...they were responsible for catapulting Bob Marley to the mainstream. Here are a few songs I liked...

I'd Rather Be The Devil - John Martyn

Lonely Boy - Nirvana

I recognise this from somewhere...might be Portishead...anyone know?
