TVersity

Very impressed by TVersity, a piece of freeware which lets you watch content on "any device, anywhere". If you have a Wii, PS3 or Xbox 360, you can watch iPlayer et al. on your big screen. Be good to see the fight mentioned above. Also worth checking out is this project from the University of St. Andrews. You simply upload a passport-esque picture of yourself and it will show you what you may look like if you were from a different ethnic background as well as how you may look aged 70. Try it out here. Also enjoyed reading this editorial today, about the sad demise of DVDs. Finally, looks like Firefox are trying to break, or BEGIN a new world record for "most application downloads in 24 hours"...read up here. I'm off to watch Peep Show and then have an early night, as tomorrow is my LAST EXAM this year!

Cassette Watch

You can now buy a pretty cool Cassette Watch on ASOS, check it out here. Woke up this morning to find that my iTunes contains no music/playlists/anything. It hasn't completely disappeared...it's still on my external HD. But now I'll have to DRAG it all back in. How irratating. Anyway, thanks to Greg for showing me these pretty cool paper pieces. In other news, you can now watch BBC iPlayer on your TV if you're a Virgin Media customer...story here. Also, head here to check out what Guitar Hero will look like on a Nintendo DS. Plus, I'm also very excited that Ford is thinking of resurrecting the Capri. However, the new one doesn't look quite as cool as the classic.

What will I get in my exams Mr. 8 ball?

Still sat here revising, only one more exam to go...can't believe it's on a SATURDAY. Found some pretty cool stuff whilst procrastinating. Check out these balancing acts and try some for yourself if you feel like it! Also discovered that Google Maps has some new features...head here. Also worth downloading DVD Flick if you want to burn some AVI files to DVD. Plus, rumour afoot that solar panels may be included in the next iPod/iPhone. I must remember to use the word afoot more. Finally, here are some songs that DJ Shadow samples in his album Endtroducing.

PS. Check out the video of a mobile phone being put in a microwave.

I Feel A New Shadow - Jeremy Storch (Building Steam with a Grain of Salt)

Touching Souls - Kay Gardner (Changeling)

Tears - Giorgio (Organ Donor)

Indiana Jones...what a letdown.

I was so excited to see Indiana Jones that I went on the opening day. Which was an error. To be honest, the first 20 minutes were so-so. When Indy is thrown out of a clapped out car, the shot pans to his shadow as you see him reach for his iconic hat, whilst the classic theme tune plays quietly in the background. That was probably my favourite part of the film. What follows are tedious action scenes, jokes which make you want to cry for all the wrong reasons and the most ridculous plot to be conceived since the dawn of mankind. If you do fancy some entertainment, I recommend checking out this DJ Yoda movie, which is a set he did using his DVD decks. Also check out my mates band, their new EP is rather good! In other news, Gizmodo made this pretty cool gallery of CIA spy cameras, head here. Also an interesting blog entry here asking whether anything will ever beat the iPod. Even I would have to admit that its monopoly in the MP3 player market is scarily astonishing. Finally, here's a video my craaazy university mates made. More to come I hope!

PS. I know the picture is completely unrelated, but it's my mate Chris dressed as a clown. I think the look on his face is CLASSIC. He kind of looks disappointed, so maybe it is related. Actually, a clown is what I felt like spending £5 to sit through Indiana Jones, so it's DEFINITELY related.

Sound Index

Another day, another memory test. Came home to find some cool stuff though. Firstly, check out Sound Index, a new project from the Beeb. Basically, they trawl the webs biggest blogs, social networking sites and the like to find out what bands/groups/DJs are being talked about the most and index them on an iTunes-esque list of 1000. The best thing about it is that it is updated every six hours. You can also alter it so it only tells you about the buzz surrounding certain genres. Check it out here. On another note, this Thursday sees the arrival of the new Indiana Jones film...check Lego's viral marketing campaign. They've made a boulder out of 5 MILLION lego bricks, akin to the one in Raiders of the Lost Ark...head here for a video. Also thanks to Bean for showing me this clip on the effects of drugs on Spiders.

PS Here's a portfolio of eye pictures.

Firefox 3

RC1 of Firefox 3 came out recently, head here to download it. It seems to be working pretty well with Vista. Had the first numerical exam today, didn't go too badly but it could've been a whole lot better. If you've seen Superbad and No Country for Old Men, you might enjoy this parody aptly titled No Country for Superbad Men...head here. On the subject of films, I can't believe it's taken me this long to show you this R2D2 video. Thanks to Jamie for showing me it. Finally, I've posted a video below of a piece of work called Science Machine. It took the artist 40 hours, and he's recorded the whole process...sped up of course.

The month of May

In my opinion, the month of May has been a terrible one for the last 6 years, with GCSEs, A-Levels and Uni all throwing exams at us in a short space of time; which arguably are nothing more than memory tests. Anyway, here is a guy named Christian Moore who has managed to put together a video of what a multi-touch full screen Mac OS would look like...it's cooler than it sounds. Also worth checking out on Thursday nights (have to wait til next week now) is The Inbetweeners. In my opinion, it looks like Channel 4 have taken the awarding framework of Peep Show and applied it to a bunch of teenage boys; check out the clip below. Also worth checking out the graffiti magazine, 12ozProphet while you're here. Right I'm going back to revising for my SATURDAY exam.

P.S. Check out the T-shirt behind the Pac-Man picture here.

Been a long time...

Ten days inbetween posts is simply not acceptable...but I think it will be another ten days now as my first exam is tomorrow. As you probably know, I like maps; this one shows all the suffixes found on websites across the globe. Been on eBay a lot this week buying the usual crap that I fill my tiny box of a room with...thought this feedback was pretty funny. Obviously GTA IV has been around for a couple of weeks now; here's one of my favourite columnists take on it. Also went to see Persepolis in the last ten days. Whilst it didn't live up to the high expectations I had due to the critics reviews, it is definitely worth seeing; here's the trailer as well as a clip below of the director talking about her film at the New York film festival. Also worth checking is 2 Many DJs blog, where you can get all their Radio Soulwax shows for free. They're old mixes, but still brilliant. Anyway, I'll be back in another 10 days after 15 hours of exams. Looks like the new iPhone may have turned up by then too...

Maps, iPhones, Stevie Wonder and Radiohead

Rather random bits and bobs to blog today. First up, here is what the next iPhone is rumoured to looks like...emphasis on the rumoured. I think it's a nice improvement. Not a view that Rockstar share...check their mockery of the iPhone here. I'm finding it hard to resist the temptation to jack in my degree and buy a PS3 solely for GTA IV...here are some tips IGN have released to help you get around Liberty City. Reports here that Radiohead won't be repeating the distribution methods they used for In Rainbows...doesn't mean I'm any less excited about see them on June 29th. Also thought you might like to take a look at the illustrator Andy Smith, I thought he had some cool stuff. If you're wondering who is in the picture, it's a young Stevie Wonder! Here's the obligatory mashup...a bit of a classic mix with Rock The Casbah by The Clash.

Pinch punch, first day of the month.

Just about have enough time to say that. I've decided that as I'm posting less frequently because of revision, I am just going to try and put as much in each post as possible. Talking of revision, I've found a couple of tracks that keep appearing on my iPod when I'm working.

Song 1 - DJ Krush

High And Dry - El Lele

Looks like the rumours about Apple phasing out DVDs are true, read here. There's also a really interesting article in The Guardian today concerning a book released by Jonathan Zittrain called The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It. It argues that gadgets are holding back the progress of the world wide web, which isn't as absurd as it first sounds. It's in a way linked to the article in the last post relating to Apple's success. It does seem to me that companies are increasingly stifling the development of open source platforms, ultimately because this means greater control...which inturn means greater profit. It only seems common sense that a casualty of this strategy is innovation. Talking about innovation, check this video from New Scientist, which shows how they have managed to control the speed of a fruit fly. Read up here.

Finally bought Control on DVD today, if you haven't seen it check the trailer out here. It's an awesome film; I first saw it in one of the first ever HD cinemas...it was AMAZING. On another note, I was complaining about AVG the other day; here's an alternative which seems to be working pretty well for me. Also, thanks to Jen for telling me about Cedric Delsaux...he's put Star Wars charcters in modern day scenerios.
